The Social Program for ASEAN delegates and other participants was held in conjunction with the ASEAN Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting – Working Group (AFCDM-WG), in Penang, Malaysia. The program was designed to offer delegates and participants an opportunity to explore Penang’s cultural and historical heritage following a week of intensive meetings. Two distinct sightseeing packages were provided, enabling delegates to experience the unique attractions of Penang while fostering networking and cultural exchange.
Delegates were given the flexibility to choose between two tour options, both carefully curated to highlight Penang’s diverse heritage and scenic landscapes.
First, Kampung Agong Tour and Heritage Sites Exploration. The first option featured a visit to Kampung Agong, a traditional Malay countryside setting renowned for its picturesque landscapes, paddy fields, and cultural attractions. Following this, delegates explored the Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery and a heritage site on the return journey to the hotel. These visits provided valuable insights into Penang’s rich local history and cultural heritage
Second, Penang Hill Tour and Heritage Sites Exploration. The second option featured a visit to Penang Hill, where delegates enjoyed breathtaking panoramic views of the island and its surrounding landscapes. The tour also included an exploration of heritage sites on the return journey, showcasing Penang’s well-preserved UNESCO-listed landmarks and cultural treasures.
The program received highly positive feedback from delegates, who appreciated the opportunity to unwind and explore Penang’s attractions after a week of meetings. The pleasant weather further enhanced the experience, ensuring all activities proceeded smoothly. Delegates gained valuable insights into Penang’s history, economic activities, and cultural heritage through live commentary provided by a dedicated local guide during the bus journey. Lunch featured a selection of authentic local dishes, which was well-received by participants.
Delegates actively engaged in the activities and expressed appreciation for the well-organized itinerary, comfortable travel arrangements, and the opportunity to immerse themselves in Penang’s vibrant culture.
The Social Program successfully provided delegates with a meaningful and enjoyable cultural experience, complementing the formal sessions of the ASEAN Meeting 2025. The positive response from participants underscores the importance of incorporating cultural and social programs into major international meetings, as they enhance diplomatic engagement and foster cross-cultural appreciation.
